Minister of Tourism Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, accompanied by other government officials, inaugurated Egypt's pavilion at ITB Berlin yesterday — the world's leading travel trade show.
This comes after Egypt's highly praised exhibition at the World Travel Market in London last November, which was a hit for its focus on sustainable travel and the use of some really cool VR. The Berlin pavilion continues the Ministry's efforts to promote tourism in Egypt, as well as the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) this upcoming year.
The pavilion, which is over 1,000 square meters, showcases Egyptian culture by letting visitors get a taste of Egypt (quite literally – there's food!), and experience the sights and sounds of the land of ancient wonders by listening to authentic Egyptian music getting up close and personal with the holograms of King Ramses II's statue, the golden mask of King Tutankhamun, and King Tut's throne.
Also in the spotlight is the opening of the GEM next year; tickets to the ITB even have the logo of the inauguration of Egypt's greatest museum yet. Giant billboards have also been set up in the streets of Berlin to announce the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum next year, according to Dr. Al-Mashat.
Pushing headstrong in Egypt's efforts to promote sustainable travel and tourism, the expo also contains 360-degree photos of Sinai Trail, the country's most prevalent long-distance hiking trail, which provides users with a virtual tour through the mountains and wonderful terrain of Sinai, going through every gem the peninsula has to offer from the Gulf of Aqaba to Saint Catherine and Jebel Musa.
Dr. Al-Mashat also announced that Egypt received the FVW Destination Ranking Award for Southern Europe and North Africa 2019 by Germany’s leading travel trade magazine during the ITB. She also announced a very important partnership with Beautiful Destinations to promote tourism in the country. The online travel platform has over a million followers on social media, and Dr. Al-Mashat hopes that together they can show the world an Egypt like they've never seen before. The founder of Beautiful Destinations entrepreneur Jeremy Jauncey was just in Egypt a few weeks ago, and he'd taken to Instagram to show some of the incredible footage he took all over the country, expressing his fascination and admiration of Egypt and its wonders.
