The World Travel Market reached its final stage on Wednesday; with a total of 5,000 exhibitors from all around the globe, the event managed to bring together experts of the industry from all over the globe, with more than 30,000 attendees in just two days. During the event, Egypt was participating with high-level delegation and became the star of the show. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism was honoured among the very best in the travel industry. After the #PeopleToPeople campaign held out by the ministry – which itself won a UNWTO award earlier this year – the hard work has been recognized in the biggest event of the global travel industry.

Each year, the Middle East media partner of WTM gets to nominate a winner for the Global Leaders Award, and this year, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism got the cake. Having had the biggest impact on the travel industry for the last two years, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism won the International Travel & Tourism Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry for the first time ever. The Egyptian ministry and delegation got to celebrate all the achievements, with Minister Rania Al-Mashat being presented the award in appreciation for their tremendous efforts over the past two years to promote tourism.

We are honored to have been chosen as the Ministry of Tourism that has contributed the most to the global travel and tourism industry over the last 24 months. The award represents another year of strong growth for #Egypt’s tourism sector reinforcing its role as a driver of economic growth and job creation. The overarching objective of E—TRP is to have at least one individual from every Egyptian household work directly or indirectly in the tourism sector. We have demonstrated that setting policy frameworks is not a theoretical approach but actually executable, as tourism revenues accelerated reaching an all-time high in 2018/2019. It is also a testament to the efforts done by the Ministry of Tourism to contribute to the global tourism industry, with #Egypt taken as an example for resilience and the ability to reinvent itself. Tourism plays a major role in global economic activity, generating 10% of GDP and providing 1 out of 10 jobs worldwide. Since I took office in Jan 2018, we have been working relentlessly with global partners for development such as the @UNWTO, @wtandtc, WTO and ITC to create awareness on the importance of tourism, strengthening and realizing the potential of Egypt’s tourism, and maximizing contribution of the sector on Egypt’s economic welfare. Once again, Congratulations #Egypt.

The award comes shortly after it was also officially announced that Egypt had achieved the highest ever tourism revenue this year, accelerated by 28 percent to reach $12.6 billion and the highest growth in Egypt’s history — so many achievements to celebrate.
